If you buy a game of Monopoly in the future, the family of game tokens will soon look very different.
Hasbro is holding a worldwide contest to let people choose the eight tokens to be included in the next generation of the property acquisition game, based on the real streets of Atlantic City, New Jersey.
The current eight: Scottie dog, top hat, racecar, thimble, boot, wheelbarrow, battleship and cat.
In 2013, Hasbro ditched an iron in favor of the cat after a similar online vote.
The changes signal shifts in daily activities for many Americans, most of whom no longer sew or iron often as they would have 85 years ago. Among the choices, including the current set, were a penguin, a rubber ducky and a bunny slipper.
Hasbro, Inc. announced the classic game piece will not be part of an updated version of the board game. The new tokens will be gold colored, CNN reported.
Fans of the board game took to Twitter to mourn the loss, many using the hashtag #SaveTheThimble. Fans recently voted out the thimble; it will not be included in Hasbro's update of the game this August.
Updating the traditional Monopoly game makes sense for Hasbro, which saw a resurgence in board game sales past year.
