Jewish cemetery in Brooklyn reportedly vandalized

The vandalism at the Washington Cemetery brings to four the number of Jewish cemeteries reported to have been vandalized in the last two weeks, including a second one in ny, the Waad Hakolel Cemetery in Rochester.

The New York Police Department said Sunday there was no evidence of vandalism at a predominantly Jewish cemetery where more than 40 tombstones were toppled over.

Headstones were found toppled in a Brooklyn Jewish cemetery Sunday morning, ABC7NY reported. It also comes a day after federal officials arrested Juan Thompson, 31, a former journalist from St. Louis, with making threats to multiple Jewish Community Centers around the country in a plot to harass an ex-girlfriend. He wrote that he'd been alerted to the damage by the Boro Park Shomrim, a private Jewish security patrol. 'The police commissioner was down here, the crew chiefs, the bias unit was down here and they're taking it seriously'. "I've spoken with the New York Police Department (NYPD) who are investigating".

The United States has seen a spike in threats and attacks against Jewish cemeteries, schools and organizations in recent weeks.

Speaking at the Yad Vashem Holocaust memorial, Cuomo says the incidents "violated every tenet of the New York State tradition".
