Unlike the early previews of the current-generation Android Nougat, which were available for any eager consumers to try out through an over-the-air update, Android O is now only available for developers. This will result in improving one's battery life. As Google explains, viewing a large media file on your device would normally require the entire file to be downloaded onto your device.
"Many of the newest enhancements, especially in [version] 7.X that buyers of the newest Android phones will start with, are much better than they were in the prior versions", he said in an email.
The Android will now let you group your notifications with different channels.
Android O might seem like a boring update at first, since it doesn't have any major features yet that might come anywhere close to being game-changers.
Now, the wallpaper is available to all, and can be found below or downloaded directly from this link. Developers can read further instructions on the Android developer page for downloading a system image and flash to their device.
The developer preview of Android O can be testes on a desktop emulator, Nexus 5X, Nexus 6P, Nexus Player, Pixel, Pixel XL and Pixel C devices.
"There's still a lot of room for improvement", Google's Android security team said in blog post about the report. Now, the company has put additional limits on things that apps can do in the background - implicit broadcasts, location updates and background services. These limits will allow developers to create apps that have minimal impact on a user's device and battery. The new firmware will feature notification channels that will let users to block or change the behaviour of each channel individually instead of managing all the app's notifications together.
Developers can specify which aspect ratio they want for their application and can even set custom interactions on the PIP window.
Developers will be able to implement more dynamic icons with Android O. If you are already using Android Nougat, you might have noticed the Calendar app's icon changes every day based on the date. With this, developers will now be able to launch an activity on a remote display. The system also can show animated interactions in launcher, shortcuts and settings and in the overview screen too. As for existing hardware, the musty old keyboard-and-mouse interfaces are getting some attention to make the Android app experience a bit more satisfying for users of Android apps on Chrome OS devices.
(12) Java 8 APIs and runtime optimizations: New java time API is supported by it and runtime is faster now with updates of up to 2x on some apps. Android O will support added Wi-Fi aware features, such as Neighborhood Aware Networking, or NAN. Google is also providing a shortcut option called "I'm Feeling Curious" for interesting trivia.
While Google will talk about the new changes at the I/O 2017 conference, it has shared the changelog of new features that have been added to Android O. As always, the developer preview version is meant for developers who can test the OS and make their apps compatible with the new operating system before it is officially rolled out to the users.
