A fitness trainer at a gym in Coral Gables, Fla., opened fire, wounding two coworkers before he turned the gun on himself on Saturday, witnesses said.
"The scene is secure and no one is in danger at this time", Zabaleta said.
Police did not say who opened fire, or who was wounded and who was killed. "I heard from my trainer that it was a trainer that had been let go".
Witnesses identified the shooter as Abeku Wilson, a well-known 33-year-old personal trainer who had apparently been fired from his job earlier in the day.
Officials said the shooting appears to have been confined to the gym.
"I had just left Equinox", Shed Boren told the newspaper. "There was a dance class of 40 people if he wanted to do that".
Coral Gables police flooded the mall, which is located at 358 San Lorenzo Ave.in Coral Gables, between Bird Road and USA 1, off Ponce de Leon Bouvlevard, and began putting nearby restaurants and shops, which include Nordstrom, Neiman-Marcus, Crate & Barrel and Jimmy Choo shoes, on lockdown.
Coral Gables police rushed to the scene, shutting down traffic outside the shopping mall and placing nearby businesses on lockdown.
A witness said there was panic inside the gym.
"So that's exactly what we did", said Tim Hartog, the restaurant's general manager.
More than a dozen police cars and firetrucks were outside the mall for hours after the shooting. He said the mall was closed until Sunday. Miami-Dade Police are assisting in the investigation.
