The Tigers hope the right-hander can be the pitcher this April that he was last April, when he went 5-0 with a 0.55 ERA to get named American League Pitcher of the Month.
A day after a thrilling and eventful home-opener win, the Tigers notched a 4-1 win against the Boston Red Sox to kick off the weekend.
Boston led 1-0 when Iglesias tied it in the third with a solo shot to left. I symbol in the grass at Comerica Park.
Zimmermann (1-0) limited the Red Sox to one run on four hits in his longest outing since June 30.
Unfortunately, that was all the damage that would be done from the lineup in this one. He'd just come off the bereavement list before the game. But after a fastball resulted in an inning-ending double play, things turned around and he relied on the offspeed more. For the Sox, relievers Ben Taylor and Noe Ramirez kept the game close with 3 combined innings of no-hit relief. Either way, Moreland would be stranded after three quick outs.
Saturday will bring Eduardo Rodriguez's first opportunity to redeem himself after a 3-7/4.71 sophomore campaign. "I want to face the best".
After walking the first two Detroit hitters in the ninth, Kimbrel struck out Miguel Cabrera. On Sunday, he walked the first batter and then gave up a sharp single that was compounded by Justin Upton's throwing error.
On Thursday, however, Detroit lost 11-2 to the White Sox, with fifth starter Matthew Boyd failing to make it out of the third inning. Iglesias, who was 0-for-12 entering the game, made his first hit of the season a big one as he drilled a 94 miles per hour fastball into the left-field stands. Two games were postponed because of the weather, and only one was made up this week. Sanchez needed just nine pitches, eight of which were strikes, to retire the Red Sox. "You're going to have games where things don't go well in some facet". That put Detroit up by one.

The Red Sox tied the game in the top of the seventh, fell behind in the bottom half of the inning, put up a four-spot in the eighth to retake the lead, and nearly collapsed in the ninth. This time, it was an RBI double into the right field gap. Meanwhile, the offense didn't stop its frustrating ways. "Hopefully I don't let them down".
It didn't get any easier to watch in the eighth.
Segura was called out after a replay review - he and third base coach Manny Acta seemed as mesmerized as anyone during the review.
To make matters more frustrating, it wasn't like the flu lineup was weakly making its way through the game. "Your arm just feels waterlogged - that's the best way to describe it".
NOTES: The Red Sox have had several players out sick recently. Twice he allowed runs immediately after the Red Sox scored. Sale pitched seven scoreless innings against Pittsburgh in his previous start this season. He tossed a 1-2-3 eighth, as well, and was aided by another ridiculous catch by Bradley. The Red Sox now hit the road for the first time. He was holding his knee on the ground, and the training staff came out to take a look.
"If Zimmermann can throw like that, we're going to be in good shape". We'll keep you posted. "First start of the year, so you try to get out there and have fun with it".
He absolutely crushed an opposite field home run, giving the Red Sox a 5-4 lead. If he can avoid the injury bug, Zimmermann could be in for a solid season.
"Certainly what he did a year ago, that's not a fluke", Farrell said of his catcher.
