That will be controlled autonomously by the overarching tunnel system, and carry the auto to its destination.
If Elon Musk gets his way, there will be interconnected systems of tunnels beneath our roads, with elevators that bring vehicles down to sleds that then shoot them off on rails at 130 miles per hour.
Following a teaser video showing Musk's vision for an electrified subterranean transportation system, wherein Tesla vehicles would be transported underground on an electric "skate" platform, Musk projected a teaser image showing the front of Tesla's upcoming semi-truck.

While the ride-hailing/food delivering behemoth Uber isn't exactly a direct competitor to Musk's electric auto company Tesla right now, it may one day find itself competing for customers.
Musk's comments came following the inaugural flying vehicle conference, held by Uber earlier this week. AIR7 HD was overhead as crews worked on the early designs of a tunnel-digging machine with The Boring Company logo. Electrek speculates that this particular boring machine could be the Herrenknecht tunneling machine that Musk investigated in Washington a couple of months ago, because it's similar in size.
A Tesla spokesman, meanwhile, said the "allegations are entirely without merit and (we) will be responding as part of the NLRB process".
"One of the most soul-destroying things is traffic", Musk told TED's head curator Chris Anderson in a 30-minute Question-and-Answer session.
Though Musk initially said SpaceX engineers would build the machine, he later said he planned to "get" one and take it apart to learn how to make it more efficient.
Vancouver has its own traffic congestion problem, but former City of Vancouver planner Brent Toderian, said Musk's idea is "dumb and unsafe". He said the tunnel would start across from his desk at SpaceX and stretch to Crenshaw and the 105 Freeway. He wants tens of tunnel levels underneath cities to compensate for people living and working in buildings tens of stories tall.
