AS Roma started the second half much brighter than Juventus and controlled possession but were lacking in end product.
It was a disjointed but exciting start, one which Juve capitalized on first.
Nainggolan smashed in a third on the bounce and Juve rarely looked like coming back from that.
Minutes later, the Olimpico erupted - and Totti began clapping - when El Shaarawy goal collected a cross from Nainggolan, cut inside and unleashed a low, right-footed strike that took a slight deflection before squeezing inside the far post of Gianluigi Buffon's net.
"We have Juventus against Roma on Sunday, that's all I'm thinking about because we want to fight all the way to the end in this championship, and Roma comes first", said Totti.
Roma (six) and Juventus (seven) have conceded the fewest goals from set plays in Serie A this season. Neither side seemed to be clicking, though, as Gigi and Wojciech Szczęsny were seldom tested throughout the first half.
"We need to go into the game completely clear-headed and channel all our mental and physical strength into winning the game as it would give us the chance to finish second".
The Argentinian has been effective, notching at key times as the Bianconeri battle for glory on three fronts, but with 32 goals in all competitions he is five behind Roma's Edin Dzeko.
Roma would do the unthinkable moments later, push the lead to 3-1.
Twenty minutes in with the score 0-0 during the lunchtime fixture, hard-core "ultra" fans unfurled a banner that read, "Since you don't deserve our support, today we're saluting you and going to eat".
Juve immediately responded by bringing on Paulo Dybala to tilt the pitch, a move which Spalletti countered by swapping off Diego Perotti for Clement Grenier who, despite his lack of playing time, is quite skilled at maintaining and moving possession up the pitch.
The final 15 minutes of this match were as intense as anything we've seen all season long.
Juventus goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon reacts after Roma's Radja Nainggolan scored his side's third goal, during a Serie A soccer match between Roma and Juventus, at Rome's Olympic stadium, Sunday, May 14, 2017.
"What he's going through right is painful for me because I know it will soon be over for him", said De Rossi, who has played alongside Totti for almost 17 seasons.
Nainggolan caught Juventus napping just before half time when he lifted the ideal through-ball into the box for Mohamed Salah, but the winger could only head straight at Buffon despite being left unmarked in the area. "We need to be focused on our objective and not let anything obscure our view." - said Spalletti. Nainggolan was equally impressive, generating two scoring chances, five clearances and completing 81% of his passes in addition to grabbing Roma's third goal.
With two rounds remaining, Juventus' lead over Roma was reduced to four points.
