There have been some signs that the Israeli government, while publicly supportive of moving the embassy, has quietly raised concerns that doing so could enflame the political and security situation.
In a recently-launched project, IDF soldiers from the Combat Intelligence Collection Corps, including spotters, will help protect Israel's wildlife.
The new United States ambassador to Israel is officially on the job.
"Moving the American Embassy to Jerusalem would not only not harm the peace process, rather the opposite".
NY [U.S.], May 16:: A rift has been created between Washington and Jerusalem after an American diplomat described the Western Wall in Jerusalem's Old City as part of the West Bank.
The Western Wall, the most sacred site for Jews, resides along the foot of the flashpoint al-Aqsa mosque compound, the third holiest site for Muslims. The wall is a popular place for prayer and reflection and is a regular stop for politicians and friends of Israel.
While out scouting the site with U.S. representatives, the Israeli team requested that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu accompany Trump and his family to the wall.
WASHINGTON (CNN) - H.R. McMaster, national security adviser to President Donald Trump, declined to say Tuesday whether the Western Wall is in Israel, furthering a controversy over the site ahead of Trump's visit to the country next week.
Yet today when it was brought up by the media, White House spokesman Sean Spicer was very evasive, refusing to elaborate beyond saying that the Western Wall is "clearly in Jerusalem".
The White House on Monday told The Time of Israel the comments by the official were "unauthorised" and did not represent Trump's policy. "This is nTterritory, but rather part of the West Bank".
Israel objected and sought to make it a public visit with Netanyahu escorting him, which USA diplomats rejected, with one noting Israel doesn't have sovereignty over the Western Wall.
"Deflecting the question, he said: 'No Israeli leaders will join President Trump to the Western Wall'". "He's going to the Western Wall mainly in connection with the theme to connect with three of the world's great religions and to pay homage to each of these religious sites that he's visiting".
Now, it seems, the wall comments have caused some high-ranking members of Bibi's cabinet to boil over with frustration.
- Conor Powell (@ConormPowell) May 15, 2017Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's Office denied the claim on Monday evening, issuing a statement that said: "The things published on Fox News are a lie". So much of what goes on is in Jerusalem.
Senior Washington officials reiterated on Tuesday evening that the USA embassy will indeed be moved to Jerusalem.
