West Ham manager Slaven Bilic has hinted that Irish defender Declan Rice could start the club's final game of the Premier League season at Burnley on Sunday.
In contrast, West Ham United were seen as outsiders for a potential European spot after finishing seventh last season.
"Carroll has a hip problem".
However, Bilic was adamant his current squad have enough leaders in the dressing room who have helped with overcoming hard periods this season.
West Ham have recently been linked in media reports with City striker Iheanacho and full-back Zabaleta.
Manager Slaven Bilic confirmed that Reid will be sidelined for up to 10 weeks as he begins his rehabilitation, with youngster Declan Rice likely to deputise.
The Clarets have successfully preserved their place in the top-flight for next season thanks largely to their form on home soil, as they have collected 33 of their 40 points at Turf Moor.
The 18-year-old was given a new three-and-a-half year deal at West Ham earlier this season.
An indifferent performance this season at one stage saw Bilic's side flirt with the Premier League relegation zone.
"He can not play the last game of the season and played in pain for the last few games and we made a decision to send him for his operation".
Bilic admitted in his Standard Sport column West Ham had faced a "perfect storm" of moving to a new stadium, losing their star player Dimitri Payet and failing to integrate a host of new signings. Yet it is West Ham's away record that has helped them out this season, scoring 26 goals on the road, more than any other team outside the top six.
"He is one that may play - he's in the squad".
Burnley have got to be careful next year.
