Wright said the "thoughts and prayers" of police were with Susan Forte, the widow of Snr Const Forte and their three children.
POLICE are still hunting for the person suspected of killing a police officer in the Lockyer Valley this afternoon.
The incident began about 2pm when police attempted to stop a vehicle being driven by a "person of interest" on Wellers Rd at Seventeen Mile, near Toowoomba.
I offer my support to the officers who are still in the field attempting to resolve this incredibly unsafe situation.
"He has been challenged by police at that point in time; he has fired at those police", he said.
Queensland police officer Senior Constable Brett Forte was fatally shot on Monday.
"It is so distressing - not just to the police service - but to the community, that we have lost a fine police officer", Mr Stewart said.
"Every day, the fearless officers of the Queensland Police Service put their lives on the line when they go to work", she said in a statement.
According to the Courier Mail, the man started firing at the officers after being pulled over by them.
He said the incident again showed how "complex and risky the job of policing is in this state and our nation".
Commissioner Ian Stewart told a press conference late on Monday night that police wanted to resolve the stand-off "as peacefully as humanly possible".
Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk sent condolences to the slain officer's friends and family.
He was tracked by police to the shed around 4pm on Monday after he also fired at other officers, police vehicles and a police helicopter.
"He will never be forgotten".
The armed man is still on the run and police are warning locals to stay indoors.
A Queensland Ambulance Service spokesman earlier confirmed paramedics had been called to the scene to treat two people, one with critical injuries, however only one was transported to hospital.
Police declared an emergency situation at 3.40pm with an exclusion zone in place for the area of Fords Road, Forestry Road West, Sandy Creek Road, Gerard Lane, 17 Mile, Wallers Road and Forest Road.
