Police say terror attack in London, reports of fatalities

Officers responded around 10 p.m. local time to reports of a vehicle collision involving pedestrians on the London Bridge, police said.

March 22: Five people are killed and more than 50 are wounded when a man rams his vehicle into pedestrians on Westminster bridge in London before crashing into the barriers surrounding parliament and then stabbing a police officer to death.

The BBC's Holly Jones spoke to a French woman who had been injured in the incident.

"Within my line of sight, there were five or six people on the ground that were not moving", he said.

"I saw that man with a knife in his hand and after that a man started screaming so I knew something wrong was happening", he said. He said a panicked store manager told diners to abandon their meals and shelter in the back of the restaurant while police conducted a search of the area.

While categorising the events at London Bridge and Borough Market as terrorism, the Met said that a third incident, in the Vauxhall area, had been determined to have no connection to what happened at the other locations. "I froze beacause I didn't know what to do", Mark Roberts, a 53-year-old management consultant, told Reuters. Police are urging the public to remain calm, be alert and stay vigilant.

England has been on the edge since May 22, when a suicide bomber killed 22 people at an Ariana Grande concert at the Manchester Arena.

Emergency services were seen treating people lying injured at the junction of Thrale Street and Southwark Street, near Borough Market. We went towards Borough Market and everyone went inside (the bar).

City transportation officials announced traffic on the bridge was shut down in both directions. I saw this van going left and right trying to hit as many people as he could.

"Then we heard three gunshots, definitely gunshots, and we ran".

Trains are now not stopping at London Bridge or Borough stations.

London Ambulance said multiple resources were attending the area.

Soon after, reports came in of stabbings around Borough Market, just steps away from the bridge. Three major London hospitals said that they were on lockdown to keep patients and staff safe.

Trump's appeal for his travel ban followed his emergency request that the Supreme Court reinstate the executive order that would bar people entering the United States from six predominantly Muslim countries.

"I thought at first it was fireworks then I recognised it was significant gunfire and that was the first instance", he said.
