ICYMI: The BCSNN take on Bob Stoops retiring after 18 years of making OU great again.
Over the course of the next 18 seasons, Stoops earned the nickname "Big Game Bob" for his ability to get his football team to marquee postseason matchups. I, and many others I'm sure, will nominate and promote his induction in the NFF College Football Hall of Fame and then know at some point in time he will make it.
Oklahoma's football coach abruptly announced his retirement Wednesday after leading the Sooners to 10 conference championships and a national title in 18 seasons. His teams finished the season ranked in the Top 10 nine times in a span of 10 seasons en route to 17 consecutive bowl appearances.
NORMAN, Okla. (AP) - Just three years ago, Lincoln Riley was the offensive coordinator at East Carolina.
"After 18 years at the University of Oklahoma, I've chose to step down as the head football coach". "He wanted to go out at the right time and he feels good about where the program is right now".
Stoops has heart disease, and his father, Ron, died in 1988 at age 54 of a heart attack suffered while coaching a high school game.
Bob Stoops' younger brother, Mike, is now the defensive coordinator for the University of Oklahoma.
"As things changed, and college football changed, and the players changed, he was able to adapt and never miss a beat", Lehman said.
In 1999, Bob Stoops became the head coach at the University of Oklahoma. His guidance also helped the Sooners reach the 2000 BCS National Championship. Last year, an 11-2 season concluded with a Sugar Bowl win over Auburn. Coach Mike Bundy may be the biggest threat to the Sooners winning ascent.
"There is life after coaching, and once he decided the time was right, he was going to move on", Spurrier said. We have outstanding players and coaches and are poised to make another run at a Big 12 and national championship. Ron Stoops Jr.is an assistant coach at Youngstown State. "What he means to me as a brother and a coach is immeasurable".
"Bob truly represents what is good about college football and the success of his career speaks for itself", Mark Stoops said. Another younger brother, Mark, is head coach at Kentucky.
Former Texas coach Mack Brown, who was 6-9 against Stoops in the annual "Red River Rivalry" showdown games, wished his old foe the best. Carol and the three children are all special people and have been such a positive influence on him.
