The UT Community's hearts go out to Zachary Barth, a UT Austin alumnus and staffer for Congressman Roger Williams, who was injured in this morning's Congressional baseball shooting.
The two U.S. Capitol Hill Police officers hailed as heroes who were injured in the shooting were Special Agent David Bailey and Special Agent Crystal Griner.
Authorities identified the gunman as James T. Hodgkinson of Belleville, Illinois. Two capitol policemen part of the security team were also shot.
Rep. Roger Williams speaks at a press conference on Wednesday afternoon. "He was texting, letting people know we were under fire".
Scalise was shot in the hip, but is in stable condition.
Williams said he "ran to the first base dugout which is in the ground about 7 feet and I literally dove into that dugout be like diving I guess into a swimming pool with no water".
Barth is out of the hospital after he was shot in the leg. Williams said senator Jeff Flake of Arizona took off his belt and used it as a tourniquet on Barth's leg.
Gov. Susana Martinez is touting New Mexico as the best place to live, work and raise a family, pointing to success over the past year of a California-based company that has set up shop in the state.
"I'm out behind the fence trying to help the Capitol Hill police engage or spot the guy because he's moving back and forth, (and) they don't necessarily see where he's at", Conaway said.

The shooting unfolded just a day before the Republican congressional baseball team will face off against their Democratic colleagues in a game played for charity - a yearslong bipartisan tradition which will go on, both sides affirmed in the shooting's aftermath.
"I think it's important because I think these people that want to destroy our lives and our livelihood here in America, they win if we give in", he explained.
"I was running for my life".
"I was pinned down in right field".
Asked about the gunman, Williams said he believes Hodgkinson had "an issue" that arose from a hypersensitive political climate in Washington, D.C., and in the nation this year. "The Lord worked yesterday, he saved us". He said Barth, a Houston native and recent graduate of the University of Texas, was treated and released from the hospital and was on his way to a full recovery.
