Spider-Man: Homecoming will reach British and American cinemas on 7th July 2017.
Here's a quick history of everyone's favorite web-slinger: 15 years ago, Tobey Maguire was your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man in 2002's lauded Spider-Man. Back in the '80s, Marvel wasn't the powerhouse it is today and had sold off its hottest comic book properties to various movie studios. Perpetually overrated, Raimi's films were visually stunning (for the early noughties) but lacked both character and wit.
After the Spider-Man: Homecoming sequel which is set to be released in 2019 following the untitled fourth Avengers film, the deal could be up for renegotiation.
Quick study: Tom Holland's Spider-Man is mentored by Avenger Iron Man Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr) and is an eager learner in Spider-Man: Homecoming. I think the most interesting thing about a young man's life is his journey from being a boy to a man, and imagine seeing that journey while having superpowers.
The video does acknowledge that Andrew Garfield gives a good performance as Peter Parker/Spider-Man, trapped in a film that neglects him for dozens of subplots focused on getting to the next film.
With an impressive 93% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, the movie has been hailed by critics as "flashy, punchy and heartwarming" (The Irish Times) and a "razor-sharp reboot" (The Guardian). Without having seen the movie yet, I have one complaint - don't you just hate trailers which make you feel as if you have seen it already?!
