One person detained for attack on Rahul Gandhi, Congress protests across state

Earlier in the day, Rahul cornered Prime Minister Modi, calling the incident the BJP and the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) way of politics.

Congress Vice-President Rahul Gandhi was attacked on Friday during his visit to flood affected Dhanera town in Gujarat's Banaskantha district.

Banaskantha Superintendent of Police Neeraj Badgujar said a man threw stones at Gandhi's vehicle, breaking its rear glass when he was on his way from Lal Chowk to the helipad in Dhanera.

Meanwhile, an FIR has been registered in the incident where anonymous persons attacked Rahul Gandhi's convoy at Dhanera today.

Rahul and senior Congress leaders attacked the BJP and RSS even as hundreds of Congress workers, led by Delhi Congress chief Ajay Maken, staged a rally from Teen Murti to Gujarat Bhawan, raising slogans against the prime minister and the BJP. "Do they think such undemocratic act of violence will cow down or intimidate anybody", the Congress spokesman said.

"It is a murderous attack by the BJP, RSS", Azad said.

The Congress workers have been protesting across the nation against the attack on Rahul Gandhi's convoy late on Friday. He is the man who threw the stone at Rahul Gandhi. "Darji is the secretary of Banaskantha district BJP Yuva Morcha". They dispersed only after police announced the arrest of one person in this connection.

"Does the BJP, a ruling party both in Gujarat and at the Centre, and its goons think that they can silent the voice of opposition in this way? What else can we say", Gandhi said outside Parliament. Rahul was travelling with SPG commandos some of whom were reportedly injured in the attack as they were sitting in the back.

They condemned the culture of violence being encouraged against opponents which is risky for democracy and the Congress workers would fight against such policies and philosophy with backing of BJP in the country. "Govt has appointed Add DG rank officer to investigate in detail&will tk strict action against those found responsible (sic)", Rupani tweeted.
