Barcelona-Catalan-club-honors-terror-attack-victims

New Barcelona boss Ernesto Valverde stated he had a "good feeling" about his side following the 53-year-old's first La Liga victory as the home manager at the Camp Nou.

Prior to the match between Barcelona and Real Betis, a minute of silence was also observed to mark respect and all the Barca players sported a black armband.

Gareth Bale made the most of the absence of Cristiano Ronaldo by scoring one goal and setting up another to make sure Madrid got its title defense off to a winning start.

Nonetheless, this was a complete display from Barcelona after a hard week for the city, with tributes to the victims of the Las Ramblas terror attack victims made before kick off.

'I will not change the system often, although our style of play does not change.

This gesture has received and express approval by the authorities of the Royal Federation of Spanish Football. "This victory is for those affected".

But the mood Sunday was altogether more somber as the football club's supporters congregated at the Camp Nou stadium to watch Barca's first league game of the season against Real Betis.

After the attack some fans, especially tourists, returned their tickets, the club said without giving figures.

Things are looking glum for Barcelona, with their board under fire for the way they handled Neymar's departure, and the club beleaguered after a 5-1 aggregate embarrassment at the hands of arch-rivals Real Madrid in the Spanish Supercopa over the last week.

"The rule is to apply the maximum possible measures, and in extraordinary situations like this, apply them much more strictly".

"In the end you always have to move forward", said Valverde.

With the mayor of Cambrils Cami Mendoza and chiefs of Catalonia's regional police force among those watching on, captain Lionel Messi led by example with Deolofeu and Paco Alcacer struggling to fill Suarez and Neymar's shoes up front.

Barcelona took the lead in the game when Alin Tosca deflected Gerard Deulofeu's cross into his own net.

Barca kept their foot on the gas after the goal and added their second just three minutes later, Deulofeu again the creator after playing in Sergi Roberto for a simple finish.
