Delhi police has arrested the woman who assaulted an army staff in Delhi. "She was married in 1995 with an army official's son and thereafter due to matrimonial Dispute got separated from her husband in 2008". Delhi Police registered a case after a video went viral on social media where accused is slapping the army staff.
"I respect army people, it was a misunderstanding due to which this incident took place", she added.
The police tracked the registration number of Kalra's Indica vehicle.
In the mobile video that had gone viral on social media, 44-year-old Smriti Kalra can be seen thrashing a soldier before walking back to her auto.
As the traffic stopped, the army jawan walked up to the woman to seek an explanation for her rash driving and refusal to give them way. He tried to ask her about their fault but she kept abusing them. He tried to speak to the woman but she held his collar, slapped him and hurled abuses at him.
Kalra got off from her vehicle and continued to hurl abuses.
In the video, the woman can be seen slapping the jawan. She apparently blamed the constable for being an Army personnel after which he came back to the truck and sat at the driver's seat.
Upon enquiry, JCO Mahavir Singh confirmed that while he was on his way towards Delhi's Nizamuddin Railway station on September 9, a woman pulled her auto over in front of their vehicle, forcing them to stop.
Kalra was arrested from her house in Gurugram and her vehicle seized.
The army then reported the incident to the Delhi Police, who arrested her on charges of "causing hurt to deter a public servant".
