Despite Siemian's struggles the last several weeks Joseph had been adamant that Trevor would remain the starting quarterback, but drastically changed his tune on Tuesday.
Broncos rookie tight-end Jake Butt returned to the practice field; Emmanuel Sanders and Todd Davis also practiced for the Broncos. The Broncos lost all three of those contests, scoring a combined 29 points while falling to the New York Giants, Los Angeles Chargers and Kansas City Chiefs. His return was prompted by Paxton Lynch's shoulder injury suffered in the preseason. So it would make sense for the Broncos to name Lynch the No. 2 quarterback when he's ready, which would bump Siemian down to being inactive on game days. "When you watch Trevor, he made three horrific decisions, but he had 20 other plays that were good".
Back in 2015, Osweiler started seven games while Peyton Manning was injured, going 5-2 and throwing for 1,967 yards, 10 touchdowns and six interceptions while completing 61.8 percent of his passes and registering a passer rating of 86.4.
Paxton Lynch, who was a full participant in practice last week for the first time since injuring his throwing shoulder in a preseason game August 26, "won't be in the mix" to start Sunday, Joseph said.
The last time Brock Osweiler started with the Denver Broncos, they went on to win the Super Bowl. And for all the struggles Osweiler had past year as a hired gun for the Houston Texans, he posted an 8-6 record in the regular season, then played well in defeating the Oakland Raiders in a first-round playoff game. The Broncos may look to trade him next offseason and move on with Osweiler, Lynch or someone else. Joseph wants to talk to Siemian and Osweiler first, then his players before making the announcement.
Siemian went 8-6 as a starter, missing two games due to injury.
This is, at least for Week 9's matchup with the Philadelphia Eagles.
"It's my job to do what's best for the football team", Joseph said.
