StarCraft 2 is going free-to-play this month

If you already own Wings of Liberty, Morhaime says you can get the expansion pack, Heart of the Swarm, free instead.

Other free additions include weekly mutations and Co-op commanders which are free to play until players reach level 5, while Raynor, Kerrigan, and Artanis are completely free without the level cap.

Those whowish to experience later chapters in the StarCraft II story can purchase the additional single-player campaigns, Heart of the Swarm, Legacy of the Void, and Nova Covert Ops, individually ($14.99 Dollars each) or together in the Campaign Collection ($39.99) through the online Blizzard Shop.

Even more, if you purchased any version of StarCraft II prior to October 31 you'll receive an Eidolon Ghost skin, and three portraits commemorating your founder's status in-game. "It was very important to us that this be accomplished in a way that feels good to our current player base and also attractive to new players or lapsed players who haven't played since Wings of Liberty". For many people, it was the first esports game they got to play, and watch professionals compete in. There will be some limitations to what players can access in the real-time strategy game though, including the need to purchase the title's other expansions.

Been meaning to try out StarCraft II for the past seven years? Just be sure to log in sometime between November 8 and December 8 to claim it.

Sporting a vibrant 3D-graphics engine, StarCraft II will once again center on the clash between the protoss, terrans, and zerg, with each side deploying legions of veteran, upgraded, and new unit types.

Blizzard made some big announcements at the BlizzCon 2017. But Blizzard's generosity doesn't stop there, as everyone will have free access to Unranked and Versus AI modes, and Ranked will be unlocked after 10 First Wins of the Day in Unranked and Versus AI.
