Millennials and charitable donations for Giving Tuesday

Locally, a new organization Giving Tuesday Kelowna has sprung up to promote the goals of the day.

Today marks Giving Tuesday, a movement that was begun in 2012 by technology website Mashable and other primarily technology companies and organizations as a counter to the commercialism and consumerism that has overtaken the holidays.

While Black Friday and Cyber Monday kick off holiday shopping, #GivingTuesday helps welcome in the charitable side of the season. In that spirit, TechCo has chose to showcase a few charitable startups that will make your holiday season that much brighter.

Whether you're a rookie or an experienced philanthropist, CariClub can help you find your passion and make a difference.

If you weren't prepared for this "Giving Tuesday" event, you don't have to wait until next year. This online professional network pairs young professionals at partner corporations with nonprofits seeking associate board members.

Many groups also collect items you already have on hand, like canned food or gently used clothing to redistribute to those in need. You could double your donations on Facebook. Instead of taking a flat fee, donors are prompted to contribute to YouCaring via a voluntary donation if they see fit. But with all of the charities out there, how do you choose? PAWS kittens will also be available for individual cuddle sessions for a $10 suggested donation. There is no risk and it will never cost you more than buying from the official retailer. And time is money as they say.

Zurbgrugg said in IL, a website has gone up that allows donors to give to their favorite nonprofit or charity organization online at www.ilgive.com, and promoted on social media using the hashtag #ilgive.
