December 14, 2017 6:00 p.m.: The New York Police Department's special victims unit has opened an investigation into accusations of sexual misconduct against music mogul Russell Simmons after allegations from 11 women, according to the Los Angeles Times. The accusations span decades and speak into varied periods of Simmons' storied career.
In the wake of mounting sexual misconduct allegations against him, Russell Simmons took a polygraph. "These horrific accusations have shocked me to my core and all my relations have been consensual", he said.
Cutrone told Page Six that she and Simmons met at a party in 1991 and he invited her back to his apartment. Simmons added: "I have enormous respect for the women's movement worldwide and their struggle for respect, dignity, equality and power".
Syracuse native Kelly Cutrone has come forward as the 13th woman accusing music mogul Russell Simmons of sexual misconduct.
She told Page Six she was inspired to come forward after Simmons repeatedly denied allegations against him and tried to "properly defend himself" by starting a #NotMe hashtag on social media Thursday. "I will prove without any doubt that I am innocent of all rape charges", he wrote.
A law enforcement official said that the Police Department was conducting a preliminary investigation into the allegations and was eager to hear from victims. Instead, it is merely a statement about his innocence, which aims to hold his accusers accountable. "NotMe Again, this is not a movement against or even in conjunction with #Metoo".
Tina Baker, an '80s pop singer who was managed by Simmons and said that he raped her in his NY apartment in late 1990 or early 1991, said that she had been contacted by a detective from the Police Department's Special Victims squad.
Simmons issued a statement in response to the story at the time of publication but did not address her age. "The #NotMe thing?" she said.
Once Cutrone was able to fend off Simmons, she said, she left his apartment "really shaken up". The mogul released a statement regarding the incident with Lumet, apologizing and sympathizing with her feelings of fear and intimidation, but denied assaulting her.
