On Saturday, the skies will clear, but the mercury will drop, with a high expected around 14 degrees.
Heading in to the New Year, it looks like colder than normal conditions may persist through the first few weeks of January for the most part. There had been some hopes in the United Kingdom of a little drift of the white stuff, given that the start of December has seen widespread sub-zero temperatures, and heavy snow in some northern areas, and even in London which has traditionally escaped any flurries.

Friday: A cold front will advance east across the Tennessee Valley and Midwest, with rain arriving in the Appalachians during the afternoon and evening. Overall, this looks like the driest day for travel, but not the warmest. Areas along the coast will be dry and mild until Friday night. By that measure, the five boroughs have enjoyed just 12 white Christmases since 1870. Rain should end as snow in the higher elevations from West Virginia to Maine. The track of that storm will determine which areas get rain, and which areas might get snow and ice.
