The New York Giants' drama-filled season took yet another turn mere day before it's set to come to a conclusion.
The suspension comes after Giants safety Landon Collins referred to Apple as a "cancer" to the team in an interview on ESPN Radio on Tuesday. "That would be the only person I would change out of our secondary group".
"There's one corner that has to establish [himself] and needs to grow, and we all know who that is".
Apple played Sunday against the Cardinals but only on special teams. The other two guys - DRC and Jackrabbit - I love those two guys.
That apparently sparked the feud between the two players that reached its peak during a Tuesday afternoon interview on ESPN Radio in NY.
With one off-color comment and an reported outburst at practice, Eli Apple likely ended his Giants career.
December 17, 2017: New York Giants cornerback Eli Apple (24) is shaken up after a play against the Philadelphia Eagles during the first half of an NFL football game in East Rutherford, N.J. With the implication that he was a liar, Collins reportedly had to be restrained by his teammates from going after Apple, per NJ.com. They play hard. They love what they do.
The Giants drafted Apple 10th overall out of Ohio State in 2016, and he had some success past year, starting the last 10 games, but 2017 has been a worse season, with off-field family drama, poor on-field play and even a fine from the team for tweeting on the sidelines.
I guess he don't remember things, "Collins said on December 14 when reporters relayed Apple's reaction".
Apple is suspended for the Giants' final game of the regular season against the Washington Redskins.
Head coach Ben McAdoo was sacked earlier in the month. But that first pick? That may not seem overly unusual outside of the fact that Apple was a first round pick in 2016 and, after a lot of on-field team as a rookie, he has disappeared amid disciplinary measures and general benching.
