Police are searching for the parents of a 4-year-old Sumpter Township girl who died Monday after being found with severe burns.
According to WXYZ-TV in Detroit, U.S. Marshals are offering up to $5,000 for anyone with information that leads to the direct arrest of Candice R. Diaz, 24, and Brad E. Fields, 28.
Candice Diaz and Brad Fields are each facing charges of child abuse, torture, and murder. Police say they are believed to be driving a black 2002 Chevrolet Cavalier with MI plates DTR1854.
Barrett was found with burns all over her body and showed signs of other abuse in her Sumpter Township home on New Year's Day.
Police say the home where she was found was full of animal waste and contained drugs and guns.
The child was transported to an Ann Arbor hospital where she was pronounced dead. Once there, cops reportedly found Diaz in distress and a dog suffering from a gunshot wound, according to the report.
Both were charged, yet Child Protective Services weren't summoned until Diaz's four-year-old daughter suffered a horrific death.
MI police charged Candice Diaz and Brad Fields in the death of Diaz's four-year-old daughter.
Police say Fields ran away from the home.
Diaz was able to escape to the community clubhouse to call police, according to the report.
Fields was charged with aggravated domestic violence, possession of a firearm as a felon and felony firearm, but the charges were ultimately dropped, according to court records.
Brad Fields, 28, faces murder, child abuse and torture charges in the death of Gabrielle Barrett on January 1, 2018. She pleaded guilty to weapons charges and received probation. His first time there was Sunday night, for a candlelight vigil.
