Manchester United Reclaim Second Place After Win Against Hapless Everton

"These boys, they jump or they don't jump", United manager Jose Mourinho said.

Ahead of United's 0-0 draw against Southampton in the final game of 2017, Gary Neville addressed a crowd at Hotel Football during the prematch meal.

Mourinho added: "It's not Paul's fault that he made much more money than Paul Scholes".

The change that was forced on Mourinho inarguably worked hugely to United's advantage. "He criticises - which is a different thing", Mourinho said on Scholes' assessment of Pogba's form via BBC. "One thing is to be a talent, another thing is to be a very good player".

And the fact that Zlatan Ibrahimovic was also ruled out for the entire month of January meant that United were light in the forwards department but Mourinho was confident that his players will adjust.

Mourinho also suggests that the former footballer is jealous of the French midfielder, Pogba, because of the salary he receives.

After Man United's draw at home to Southampton, Scholes ripped into Pogba, saying that the midfielder is not the same person who the Red Devils signed from Italian champions Juventus for 89 million euros.

Anthony Martial led the line in place of the injured Romelu Lukaku and scored the opening goal early in the second half with a fine strike, before Jesse Lingard sealed the win late on with a similarly impressive effort. "If Paul (Scholes) one day decides to be a manager, I wish that he can be 25 per cent as successful as myself". So 25 is around six trophies.

Pogba and Juan Mata took charge of the game in the second half, driving the pedestrian United forward at every opportunity. "If he's 25 percent, he'll be quite happy". "Maybe Romelu can play (against Derby)".

He says United is the only club he wants to coach at and he was disappointed to miss out on the Under-23s job, believing the club held his critical media comments against him. That followed suit under Jose and this year, he has finally stitched together a series of key performances that has seen him start more games than the much fancied Armenian in Henrikh Mkhitaryan. Paul Pogba teed up Martial on the edge of the area and he stroked a sublime finish into the top corner for his ninth goal of the season.

For too long, United have found themselves burdened and even dictated by the say-so of Scholes, Ryan Giggs and the Neville brothers, but the tables may finally be turning with the former Chelsea boss.
