Facing flak from the Opposition on issues such as job creation and the plight of traders, the government is planning to push for several key bills including banning instant triple talaq, and granting constitutional status to the Commission on Other Backward Castes during the Parliament session. The government emphasized its focus on passing the triple talaq bill and urged for cooperation from leaders.
The Economic Survey, an annual publication of the Finance Ministry, is presented to both houses of Parliament during the Budget Session. After a recess of almost a month, the session will resume on March 5 and go on until April 6.
In a letter to Mahajan, Gandhi said a voluntary exercise like this "would send a positive message" about the "sensitivity that we possess as elected representatives", especially when inequality is widening in India, The Times of India reported. However, despite the order of the Supreme Court, the bill on triple talaq could not be passed by Parliament.
