One police officer was killed and two deputies were shot Friday morning while they were serving a warrant in Georgia, according to 11 Alive.
Locust Grove Elementary School has been placed on lockdown as a precaution, reported Fox 5.
"It became apparent that the suspect was not going to go with police, which is why a Locust Grove officer was called in to assist", McBrayer said.
Henry County's sheriff said the man who shot the officers is dead.
The shooter was killed in the incident, which happened around 10:30 a.m. while deputies were serving a warrant, WSB-TV reported. The two injured deputies were Michael Corley and Ralph Sidwell "Sid" Callaway, both with the Henry County Sheriff's Office. Georgia Bureau of Investigation spokesperson Nelly Miles said officials are still notifying next of kin before identifying the suspect. The second deputy was listed in fair condition.
The neighbor told Fernandes that she thought the gunshots were firecrackers until she saw all the first responders descend on Saint Francis Court.
Maddox died after arriving at a hospital.
Price said Maddox and his wife were the parents of one child and were expecting another. The other deputy continues to recover from his injuries.
Henry County Sheriff Keith McBrayer made the announcement Friday afternoon at a news conference.
Police blocked off multiple entrances of a subdivision not far from an outlet mall, and turned away people who don't live in the neighborhood.
