The 2016 Heisman Trophy victor is at the NFL Scouting Combine, which is an annual week-long showcase of the league's next generation of talent at the Lucas Oil Stadium, Indianapolis, ahead of the draft in April.
"Strictly quarterback", he said repeatedly Friday at the National Football League combine.
The 2016 Heisman Trophy victor put up record-breaking numbers during his three years at Louisville but heading into the NFL Scouting Combine, there were many skeptical his success at the college level would translate to the NFL and he should make a position switch to wide receiver.
Multiple NFL teams have requested Jackson to work out at wide receiver at this week's combine, NFL Network's Peter Schrager reports.
"I know coming in as a rookie agents don't really negotiate anything", Jackson said. "I think he's going to get every chance to prove that before he ever looks at a position change". He finished his college career with 9,043 passing yards and 4,132 rushing yards, and 119 total touchdowns.
However, Schneider also said Jackson is a quarterback on the Seahawks' board.
The Steelers are once again doing their due diligence this year when it comes to the quarterback position despite them drafting Joshua Dobbs a year ago. It's the equivalent of a baseball team drafting a successful starting pitcher who doesn't fit the typical profile (he's too short, doesn't throw hard enough, etc.) and immediately moving him to the bullpen in the minors. "They say what they want to say".
Jackson also isn't running the 40-yard dash here in Indianapolis. "You gonna get the salary you're going to get". "I've just got to show off my arm 'cause that's where they're doubting me", Jackson said, joking that he feels "like [New Orleans's] Drew Brees" after widening his throwing stance. ". I'm mobile, I can hit any player on any part of the field, and I love the game with a passion".
The 2018 draft is littered with talent, but the most important position is quarterback.
"Whoever like me at quarterback, that's where I'm going", Jackson said. I love putting a chip on my shoulder.
"I know the veterans want to win". Let's exhaust that other thing that we know he's good at and see. "I'd rather not have him switch positions", Elway said.
