National Basketball Association star Kobe Bryant wins an Oscar - but not everyone is happy

Kobe Bryant can add another huge accomplishment to his resume: Oscar victor! And it turns out not much is different in his personal life: Bryant is still married to his wife Vanessa, who he married back in 2001. The animated feature that is set to his memorable poem, "Dear Basketball", was Bryant's open letter to the league and the game he loved in the Players Tribune on November 29th, 2017.

The award was presented to Bryant alongside veteran Disney animator, Glen Keane.

"It's a message for all of us, whatever form your dream may take, it's through passion and perseverance that the impossible is possible", Bryant said of his win. Boasting five NBA championships, an MVP Award and 18 All-Star appearances, he is widely considered one of the best basketball players of all time.

Bryant received a congratulatory tweet from former Los Angeles Lakers teammate Shaquille O'Neal.

Bryant's retort was a reference to a controversial statement from Fox News journalist Laura Ingraham who in February sought to chastise Cleveland Cavaliers baller LeBron James for his political commentary. "That's cute (they told me when I spoke of my aspirations to be a storyteller)".

After walking offstage with his Oscar, Bryant told reporters, "I feel better than winning the championship".

"To be here right now and to have like ... a sense of validation is ... this is insane, man,".

Sports icon Kobe Bryant might be celebrating his first Academy Award victory, but some supporters of the #MeToo movement aren't. "But my body knows it's time to say goodbye".

"The hardest thing for athletes to do is when you start over, you really have to quiet the ego and you have to. begin again". The petition was created in late January, and protests Bryant's Oscar over the accusation that he raped a nineteen-year-old girl in 2003.

Watching the 2018 Academy Awards ceremony Sunday, you may have been surprised to see Los Angeles Laker Kobe Bryant on stage accepting an award.
