Amidst speculations of forming a united front against the BJP in 2019 general elections, Trinamool Congress president and Chief Minister of West Bengal Mamata Banerjee landed in the Capital on Monday. She attended Parliament today and met Shiv Sena MPs and DMK's Kanimozhi apart from TDP, TRS MPs in the House. Andhra Pradesh CM and TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu is scheduled to visit Delhi next week and meet representatives of all political parties.
After meeting leaders from NCP, Shiv Sena and RJD, Banerjee said the 2019 Lok Sabha elections will certainly be very interesting.
The TMC supremo is also likely to call on UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi and it remains to be seen if the visit serves as an ice-breaker between the two parties, especially after Banerjee skipped the dinner that was hosted by the UPA chief earlier this month.
The West Bengal chief minister will also meet rebel BJP leaders Shatrughan Sinha, Yashwant Sinha and former Union minister Arun Shourie tomorrow.
Attacking BJP over its Hindutva politics, the TMC chief said that "there is no bigger communal party in the country than the BJP. It should be one fight", she said on opposition strategy.
She asserted that all opposition parties should work together to oust the saffron party. I have been a Parliamentarian myself and I know numerous leaders. "Whether one agrees with it or not, the message about demonetisation, GST and bank fraud has gone down to the people, just as whether one agreed at that time or not the message about PM Indira Gandhi's garibi hatao, nasbandi and Emergency had all gone down to the people".
"Yes, Soniaji is not well right now and recovering".
Talking to reporters after her meeting with the NCP chief, the West Bengal Chief Minister said, "when political leaders meet, they do discuss politics".
"I sent Dinesh da (Trivedi) to the Congress office but she had left by then".
Banerjee is expected to meet Sonia Gandhi on Wednesday. "Let Akhilesh call a meeting in Lucknow, we are ready to meet them in Lucknow itself". "We are strongly with her and (SP leader) Akhilesh Yadav in this mission for the nation", she had tweeted.
Banerjee also met Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) parliamentarian Misa Bharti, daughter of RJD chief Lalu Yadav.
There have been suggestions that the opposition parties should put up common candidates against the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls.
