John Isner won the biggest title of his 14-year career on Sunday, holding every service game and rallying past Alexander Zverev in the Miami Open final, 6-7 (4), 6-4, 6-4.
The 14th-seeded Isner recorded 13 aces in the one-hour, 22-minute match while halting the red-hot del Potro's 15-match winning streak.
He played an nearly flawless semifinal to beat Juan Martin del Potro, and was just good enough against the fourth-seeded Zverev, a precocious 20-year-old German who was bidding for his third Masters 1000 title in the past 12 months.
Isner, who won an impressive 83 percent of points on his second serve, was aiming to reach his fifth ATP Masters final and, finally, emerge victorious from one after four defeats.
The previously unheralded Collins, a Florida native who ended 2017 ranked 167th but came into this tournament as the 93rd best player in the world, is certainly having a March to remember. Not only has Zverev faced more break points overall in their meetings, he's also faced more in two of their three matches, so it is likely that there was a large dose of variance and fine margins in Zverev's head-to-head triumphs. "I played bad from the baseline, but it's not easy against John".
He took the match with an ace, and will go on to play John Isner in the finals where he's setting his sights on his seventh ATP Tour title.

"Of course, I was working hard, but I have been more relaxed on the court, and I think that's showing in my play". "I'm toward the latter part of my career; this is the best moment of my career". "So that's what I did, I hit a few winners, very fortunate to win the first set and then found my game in the second". "I got too much love from the fans, and maybe that pains go away during the match. I know I'm in the semi-finals and I can't wait to get back on this court".
Isner is the first U.S. player since Andy Roddick in 2010 to lift the Miami title. Despite that, the two have always been put on a display of high-quality tennis, with their match in Miami past year the most entertaining.
Overall, Zverev said, "I'm happy where I am at right now now". "I stuck to it pretty well", Isner said.
Fourth seed Zverev survived five break points in the opening set, before winning a tense tie break 7-4.
Isner beat three seeded players en route to the final, including No. 2 Marin Cilic.
