Lakers Shock 10-Year G-League Vet Andre Ingram With NBA Contract

Ingram, who has a degree in physics from American University, has played 384 career games in the development league, averaging 10.2 points in 25.6 minutes per game while making a record 713 shots from deep.

The NBA world was inspired this week when Andre Ingram earned a call-up to the Los Angeles Lakers for their two remaining regular-season games.

And as for players making their National Basketball Association debut after the All-Star break, Ingram's 19 points were the most in a debut in the past 50 seasons, second to Danny Finn's 28 points scored in 1953.

The call-up came as a shock for Ingram, who thought he was heading to an exit interview before South Bay general manager Nick Mazzella dropped the big news.

On Tuesday night, Ingram, the G League's all-time leader in made 3-pointers, made his debut, and he did not disappoint.

Ingram hit his very first shot, a 3-pointer, and finished 6-for-8 from the field and 4-for-5 on 3-pointers, along with three rebounds, three blocked shots and a steal. MVP chants [while at the free-throw line], that's just insane.

The drama of the moment - his moment - wasn't lost on Ingram. But I didn't want to try to.

"From the team warm-ups, the atmosphere was electric", he said. "I told him 'much respect.' Ten years grinding in the G League, and to finally get an opportunity and to play like that, that is pretty special".

"You don't make a lot of money when you're in the minor league system", Walton said.

"You do not make lot of money in the minor league system, playing insane schedules, in small towns, constantly waiting for others to think you are good enough". That can get really mentally tough on people.

An NBA contract eluded Ingram as he showed some serious potential during his G-League tenure. If ever a man wanted to convince his employer that they made the right decision in hiring him, Ingram left no room for doubt.
